Small and medium sized operators can now launch LBS quickly and affordably
Genasys announces today the launch of a new program for hosted LBS designed for small to medium
sized operators. The program aims to provide a quick and affordable solution for operators with
fewer resources to launch proven location-based services to their subscribers.
Cost and complexity are just a couple of the barriers to location-based services for most of
the world's mobile operators. While many of the largest operators have already launched
location-based services by sourcing and building the infrastructure internally, this task can take
many months and cost millions. So now, several years since LBS technology became available, few
operators with under 1,000,0000 subscribers have been able to deliver these exciting services to
their customers.
The hosting service includes two or more applications and complete maintenance and upgrades to system elements over time. In normally about six weeks, Genasys professionals will establish the required connections to the operator's network and source Tele-Atlas geographic content to serve the operator's market. The location technology is 100% network-based meaning that services can be enjoyed by all the operator's subscribers without the need for special software or chips in their mobile devices.
The service is based upon revenue-sharing, thus minimizing financial risk and speeding up return-on-investment. Customers are guaranteed full-service, reliable technical support as well as guidance for the initial launch and regular promotion of the new services. The service offers all support necessary to ensure the success of the applications and stability of the new revenue streams over time.
"The 1·2·3 Hosted LBS service doesn't just save the operator millions in start-up costs but also provides top-notch technology and a highly experienced technical staff to install and maintain the service," points out Agustin Cuenca, Genasys VP of Sales. "We are exceedingly pleased with the service we've designed with our partners and believe that it will truly help smaller operators compete in highly dynamic markets."
To create the 1·2·3 Hosted LBS solution, Genasys worked with leading technology partners to build an end-to-end infrastructure; from location determination system to user applications. The location server identifies mobile user locations while applications by TrackWell and Ydreams use this information to deliver unique and personalized services to end users. Connecting all the pieces is the Genasys Positioning Platform location enabling server, a highly functional and flexible middleware platform that provides added value in terms of data privacy protection, system security, GeoServer functionality, interoperability, roaming and more.
Genasys is attending the first annual Mobile Location Services Americas conference next week in Miami and will be formally presenting details of this new service. On Tuesday the 13th, they will be presenting a Webinar (in Spanish) directed toward the Latin American market regarding LBS opportunities and risks.
