Coinciding with the GSMA Mobile World Congreso 2008 which took place between the 11th and the 14th of February, Genasys launched in Barcelona SIMLocator, its Mobile Phone location solution based on the SIM card.

SIMLocator is a location solution SUPL (Secure User Plane Location), from the user's plane, simple, fast to implement and it doesn't need large investment from the Operator, especially in "Location Servers" (Location Servers or GMLCs) which are used in "Control Plane" solutions ( opposite to the "Plane User or SUPL) and which convey a high investment cost.

SIMLocator is based on two components: A software agent boarded in the terminal which is able to get information from the net necessary to obtain the location of such terminal and a server component which keeps location information of BTS's, user profiles regarding privacy and location licenses, as well as other duties necessary in the location field.

The boarded agent can be downloaded via OTA in the terminal.

SIMLocator is much more efficient than a "Control Plane" solution for location applications which require a follow-up or the detection of terminals in some areas, thus freeing the net of successive and useless locations. For that reason it is especially indicated for tracking applications, Geo-Fences, Advertising based on Location, Marketing one to one, etc.

The SIMLocator use demonstrations carried out in the GSMA Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2008 aroused a great amount of interest in the online market with the future trends shown in this editions: The move of Internet 2.0 (the one of User Generated Content to the Mobile Phone) together with the arrival of the advertising business and of Marketing in Mobile Phones.
