A course for GIS professionals in Argentina introduces the
power of GenaMap 9
GeoGestión, Genasys' official distributor for the
GenaMap Product Suite in the Southern Cone region, has delivered
a 25-hour "GenaMap Boot Camp" course in the Argentinean
capital. The course, attended by around 20 professionals
from both the public and private sector, took place during
the final days of May and the beginning of June.
The main objective of the course delivered in Buenos Aires
was to train GIS professionals in the use of the new version
of GenaMap. Roberto Castillo, General Manager of GeoGestión,
explains, "Our goal is that attendees who are new to
GenaMap learn to use the basic commands, understand the
architecture of the product suite, and carry out analytical
and administrative tasks upon the geospatial database so
that they are then capable of developing applications using
the unique advantages that GenaMap offers. For those who
have already used GenaMap, this course is meant to illustrate
the features of the new version while reinforcing established
concepts."
The practical and theoretical course was divided into three
parts covering the main aspects of GenaMap: searching and
viewing the contents of the database, creation and modification
of the database, and the application development tools.
Upon conclusion of the course, attendees were offered a
free temporary license, including technical support, so
they could practice the knowledge gained and delve into
more complex operations and features of the product suite.
This course was delivered shortly after Genasys officially
released GenaMap 9 in the beginning of May - the first version
of the product under the Genasys brand following the merger
with GenaWare at the end of 2004. This new version which
runs natively on Unix, Linux, and Windows systems makes
GenaMap one of the most powerful platforms for GIS development
thanks to its efficient use of scripting which speeds decision
making processes and simplifies the management of geographic
information and georeferenced content.
Further courses are planned for the future so GIS developers
or integrators in the Southern Cone region interested in
attending should contact Roberto Castillo at GeoGestión
